ABOUT THE GROUP
Writtle Cards was founded in 1968 and has around 20 active
members covering a wide age range. We present two or three full-length plays each year, usually at Writtle Village
Hall, plus occasional one-act plays in local drama festivals.
Our September 2007 production of Noel Coward's "Private Lives", directed by Sarah Wilson,
was the fourth play we have presented at Chelmsford's Cramphorn Theatre and we hope to perform there again in the near future.
We always invite the local adjudicators from the North Essex Theatre Guild and the National
Operatic and Dramatic Association to attend our productions and to give us a written adjudication. In recent years we have
won the NWETG annual awards for Best Costume, Best Set (twice), Best Comedy Partnership, Best Supporting Actress and Best
Actor, as well as the Best Individual Performance and Best Play awards from NODA.
We meet and rehearse at 8 p.m. most Thursdays at Writtle's Community Centre, Longmeads
House, Redwood Drive. In addition to putting on productions, we conduct play readings and have a varied programme of social
events, including debates, car rallies and outings to theatres and other activities.
New members are always welcome so, if you would like to find out more,
