This website is provide and maintained by the Writtle Community Association to provide information about our village in
general and its community activities in particular.
The Association is a voluntary body of local residents who's aim is to help to maintain and sustain an all-inclusive community
spirit in our village and, to that end, it has particular responsibility for managing Writtle's Community Centre at Longmeads
House, which it leases from Essex County Council.
The Association is a self-funded registered charity which, at present, is in process of raising sufficient funds to renovate
and rejuvenate both the House and its surrounding grounds. Any assistance towards these efforts is always very welcome.
On this website we hope to provided space for all the various interest groups, organisations and services to be found
in Writtle (see Links on the left) as well as details of the Association's programme of fund raising and/or social events
(click the "Events Diary" link). Enjoy!

VILLAGE REPORT BACK
ON THE PUBLIC MEETING HELD LONGMEADS HOUSE ON JULY 18
Fellow residents of Writtle,
As the recently elected Chairman of Writtle Community Association, I see it as an important part of my role to keep all
village residents up to date with the WCA's activities and developements at Longmeads. Following last month's very well attended
AGM, three Working Groups were formed to help with the rejuvenation of Longmeads House and grounds and to broaden the activities
of, and participation in, the Writtle Community Association itself.
To further those aims, last week we held a very well attended village Public Meeting and were extremely encouraged by
the number of those attending who have volunteered to actively help with our immediate and developing programme. This ranges
from creating a network for delivering our info leaflets and doing interior paint work in the House to clearing and replanting
its garden beds and borders and developing the widest possible variety of activities and events. An important feature of
the latter will be to raise funds to provide for a healthy Contingency Fund - essential for the proper maintenance of Longmeads
as our village's Community Centre. At the meeting we were equally encouraged by the visible support of Essex County Council
and Writtle Parish Council.
There is clearly a desire to develop and strengthen a sense of community in our village and, as the Writtle Community
Association and Longmeads Community Centre exist for that purpose, please consider what ideas, advice or active help you are
able to offer.
Alan Wilson, Chairman, Writtle Community Association. July '08
